Our Fondest Memories of Making The Bear (SK Style)
Well, folks welcome to our first installment of The Sixers sharing our favorite memories of making the album we've called The Bear. We want to share these memories with you so when you listen to the beautiful music you will be able to envision what we went through. We would have had you there in the studio, but the room we recorded in was the size of a closet. Maybe next time...
So, this week let's start with Stephen and his favorite memory. Next week, who knows? Kit, Boots, Steamer? Wow, a loaded question...
Hey everyone,
I'm Stephen Kellogg and I play piano on the song "Hearts in Pain" for SK6ERS. My favorite memory in making "The Bear" was the day we recorded "All Part of
the Show." After a few not unsuccessful runs at the song, we headed down to my high school friend Nikki Font's bar/vintage clothing store (The Dressing Room, which is worth the visit). As we walked the streets of the lower east side of Manhattan, it began to snow and I realized something I never had before while making a record; we were having fun. After having a couple of drinks as the snow continued to cover New York City, we went back into the studio and recorded the song in a take or two. Then we got on the phone and started drunk calling our friends to come over...
Josh Ritter came by and we all sang "All part of the, all part of the, all part of the show" on one microphone. Then I cornered him with a Guinness and made him perform; telling me jokes while Tom Schick recorded.
Then our manager, Steve Bursky came by and joined in on the finger snaps. Dave Chalfant played some reckless guitar tracks (some made it, some not so much but fun to hear anyway). 24 hours after starting the tune, it was done... Boom roasted. We had fun. Holy shit. BOOM ROASTED!
